It’s Not Too Late for Bernie

Sanders meeting with Hillary Clinton in 1993 to discuss her then reform to the healthcare system

After what happened in 2016, why did Senator Bernie Sanders decide to run as a Democrat again in 2020 when he has been an Independent for his entire career? Instead of playing to one of his greatest strengths, namely that he is not part of the Democrat-Republican duopoly, he succumbed to conventional wisdom that says that only a major party candidate can have a shot at winning a presidential election. Given how well he was doing in the primary elections this year up until South Carolina weighed in, Sanders should consider resuming his widely popular campaign as the Independent he has always been.

It is no secret that the DNC and the Democratic Party’s old guard establishment, as well as their conspirators in the mainstream media, actively worked to derail his campaign as a Democrat and diminish his chances of winning the nomination. But in spite of this, Sanders still won a significant number of primaries in 2016 and again in 2020. And he did all of this without the massive fund-raising machinery and infrastructure at the DNC’s disposal. He outraised every other candidate by building and organizing the largest grassroots coalition of voters in American history. And he was able to do so not because he campaigned as a Democrat, but because he genuinely inspired people with his ideas, honesty, and consistent track record.
